Next Possible Snowstorm

One storm out, next storm to watch. It looks likely we will see a strong Alberta Clipper move through the Midwest next week, mostly on Tuesday. As of now the heaviest snow will occur in the shaded area, with northern Iowa being hit hard (according to one computer model). With the said I would expect a broad area of 3-6". According to computer models, 6"+ is possible, but history and  this normal track of like systems I would expect less than that. We will fine tune as the system gets closer, still 5+ days out. Additional Snow Through Wednesday

Prolonged Snowstorm

Here's a preliminary snow map. Notice how the snow will last several days, meaning some isolated spots could pick up higher totals. Yet again, Kansas City will get hammered with near a foot of snow, twice in a week. The storm will then sift into northeastern areas, but weaken as it moves. Stay tuned for updates throughout the week.

Similar Storm for Early Next Week

A very similar storm will move into the Midwest early next week. It will come out strong, but weaken as it moves to the northeast. Amounts will generally be in the same ballpark. In fact, one computer model give Kansas City another foot or more of snow! Stay tuned for that. Computer models are starting to narrow in already. The red area is the cone of uncertainty  But the track should stay confined to within this area. Exact amounts are impossible, this early. Furthermore, this system will hang around for a few days and will bring the chance of snow through Thursday!

Preliminary Snow Map

A Strong Storm will strike the Plains Thursday. It will actually weaken as it moves towards the northeast (its on the end of its life cycle). Thunderstorms will rotate up into the cold air over northern Kansas and southern Nebraska, where over a foot of snow is possible. Amounts will then taper off as you head northeast, as the storm become more and more occluded. Just how quickly the storm weakens will play a major role in exact snow totals. However, a broad area of 2-6" outside the heavy snow looks likely. Stay tuned for updates

The Next Winter Storm

A strong storm will move on shore the Pacific coast early this week. It will then emerge from the Rockies as a closed low system, this storm will come out strong, but will rapidly weaken (as all closed low systems do). How quickly it does this will play a major role in snow totals. The map on the left shows a general summary of this wide range snow. Up to a foot is possible in and around the heavy area, with amounts dropping off from there.

More Snow Now, and Overnight

More light snow to fall tonight. A weak clipper will provide a narrow band of moderate snow. Some spots up to 4" or maybe 5" in isolated areas!

Winter Storm to Bury the Northern Plains

After over 3 feet of snow dumped on New England and Boston last night, the next winter storm will not look as impressive However, blizzard warnings and winter storm warning accompanied  this latest system. Up to a foot on snow, possible 14" if banding sets up will fall Sunday and Monday. At the same time freezing rain and a wintry mix/mess will hit Wisconsin and northern Iowa. This is, how the media labels it, winter storm Orko. Comment below if you think we should naming winter storms....

Developing Winter Storm Tonight

Yet another snow maker to impact the Midwest tonight and tomorrow. A clipper will merge with a deepening area of low pressure. The intensification will occur tonight and reach its peak over Michigan, where up to a foot of snow is possible on some places. On the south side a rain to ice to snow will hit areas such as northern IL. Some of the snow in northern MN has already fallen, so the map on the left should be taken as a storm total. Strongest Clipper Yet

The strongest of the clipper parade will come on Wednesday night and much of Thursday. This time around, a band of 3-6" possible 7" will set up, however pinpointing the exact spot is difficult, but here is the thought as of now. It may need to be narrowed, but the consensus is fairly confident. Next our eyes turn to a larger system for late in the weekend and Monday, looks more like rain for most places with snow changeover on Monday. Stay tuned.

Parade of Storms to Continue

Yet another storm system will pass through the Midwest tonight and tomorrow. In fact, this is the 4th storm to drop snow since Friday. With another couple clippers on the way, before a larger storm this weekend. As for now, the snow tonight and tomorrow will be light, see map. However, so very isolated spots may see 4" north of Minneapolis and on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan (due to lake enhancement. Again, it will be a fluffy snow, so will be easy to shovel or even use a leaf blower, like the comment I saw in a previous post.

Light Fluffy Snow Tonight

A weak storm system will bring down some moisture from Canada. Not much to work with, but since it is still cold out the snow will pile up quicker as snow ratios will be rather row. Meaning you can expect a fluffy snow that will be as heavy as cotton, similar to the last couple systems. The system will strengthen as it hit MN and WI, but will then weaken as it hit IN. This leaves for a relatively small window for the heaviest snow. 2-4" can be expect in the dark blue, with a couple isolated spots seeing 5" by noon Monday. Another system looks to come Tuesday.
